What are Ergonomics and Musculoskeletal Disorders?
"Ergonomics is a science concerned with the 'fit' between people and their work. It puts people first, taking account of their capabilities and limitations. Ergonomics aims to make sure that tasks, equipment, information and the environment fit each worker". "The term MSD covers any injury, damage or disorder of the joints or other tissues in the upper/lower limbs or the back." (source: HSE).
MSDs can be caused by 'single incident' injuries or by repetitive strain through handling loads, equipment operation and computer equipment use.
